Defensive Back Draft Strategy

Sweet Spot: Rounds 11-14

DB is the most volatile IDP position. Wait until double-digit rounds and draft quantity over quality. Streaming DBs off waivers is a viable strategy — the week-to-week variance makes no DB "must-own."

Safeties > Cornerbacks

Safeties average 2-3x more tackles per game than cornerbacks. In standard IDP scoring, tackles dominate. Only draft cornerbacks if your league heavily weights interceptions (INT YoY correlation: 0.15 — almost random).

Target: Box Safeties

Box safeties who play near the line of scrimmage get 6-8 tackles per game. Deep safeties get 3-4. Look for DBs with 80%+ snap counts on run-heavy division opponents. Divisional matchups repeat = stable floor.
